Blackmagic Design Cloud Network Storage Solutions

Today Blackmagic Design showcased several Blackmagic Cloud products for network attached storage. These new products will integrate with DaVinci Resolve so your team can all have access to media and work more effectively as a team.

There are three network storage options. Blackmagic Cloud Store, Blackmagic Cloud Store Mini and Blackmagic Cloud Pod.

Blackmagic Cloud Store

Killing the hill is the Blackmagic Cloud Store. It is a high-performance network storage solution with four 10G Ethernet connections and a parallel memory core that can support maximum possible transfer speeds on each 10G Ethernet port, all at the same time. Blackmagic Cloud Store features are designed specifically for the demands of the high-end TV and movie industry, where large media files need to be shared among multiple users for editing, color correction, audio publishing and VFX work. It can handle Blackmagic RAW 12K digital cinema files. BMD states that each user gets zero latency and does not need to store files on their local computer.

Blackmagic Cloud Store Features

  • Sleek design with silent cooling.
  • Includes 20TB, 80TB, and 320TB models.
  • High performance RAID 5 flash memory.
  • Sync with Dropbox.
  • Includes HDMI monitoring output with live storage status.
  • Includes four 10G Ethernet ports with an integrated switch.
  • Supports Ethernet connection via USB-C to computers.
  • USB-C ports allow for local file ingest and backup.
  • No subscription, no license and no tracking of user data.
  • Includes software utility for Mac and Windows platforms.

BMD indicates that it is silent, so it can be used on site. Internally, it has a set of flash memory cards working in parallel for speed and data protection. The four 10G Ethernet ports work like a switch so users can connect four separate computers, or they work together using “Link Aggregation” for massive 40G Ethernet speed. There is also an HDMI monitoring output so users can watch a live graphical view of the storage running on a TV or monitor.

It is available in 20TB, 80TB and 320TB models, so customers have plenty of room for all their business files and video media. M.2 flash memory cards are used for extreme reliability, high access speeds and zero seek times. Additionally, the M.2 cards are arranged in parallel RAID 5 groups so they can perform much faster than a single card. This guarantees massive speed combined with fault tolerance.

The internal memory core was designed to saturate all four 10G Ethernet ports to their theoretical maximum speeds, all at the same time. At maximum speed, the Blackmagic Cloud Store is extremely quiet with very little cooling fan noise. Even when editing large RAW files of 12K digital movies.

To glide

Users can set up a local cache of their Dropbox files. This makes work much faster as files are instantly available without needing to be loaded from the internet. The Blackmagic Cloud Store will constantly work to stay in sync. Plus can also save space on their computer by moving cached Dropbox files to the Blackmagic Cloud Store so they’re available to everyone on their local network. Users can even sync multiple Blackmagic Cloud Stores via Dropbox so people in different geographic locations can collaborate without latency because everyone has a local copy of files. Dropbox can also be used as a backup solution.

Blackmagic Cloud Store back

The two USB-C ports in the Blackmagic Cloud Store can be used to upload and save files. If users connect a media card reader or USB-C disk to the ingest port, all files on that disk will be uploaded to the cloud store. It works with a USB-C drive, or even large USB-C drive bays.

There are no subscriptions to take out. There are no monthly license fees. There is no tracking of their usage or data. This means that customers can manage a private network, completely disconnected from the Internet. This is essential for many security standards where computer networks cannot be connected to the external Internet.

The Blackmagic Cloud Store will be available Q2 2022 from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide starting at US$9,595.

Cloud Store Mini
