UMass will have to wait another week to return to the ice.

The Minutemen vs. Union hockey series scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Schenectady, NY, has been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols in the Union schedule. A makeup date has yet to be set.

No.12 UMass (9-4-2) hasn’t played since defeating Merrimack in overtime on December 8.

The Minutemen are now set to return from the winter break Jan. 8-9 against Michigan’s No.3 in Ann Arbor. Saturday’s game drops the puck at 5 p.m. on the Big Ten Network, while Sunday’s 4 p.m. contest airs on ESPNU.

The Wolverines recently called off Thursday’s game against West Michigan due to “health and wellness protocols within the Wolverines program” unrelated to COVID-19. Michigan had five players at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships, which were called off Wednesday due to COVID outbreaks among several teams leading to quarantine warrants.

UMass defenseman Scott Morrow was part of the American squad but was expected to return to the Minutemen in Ann Arbor after the tournament was over.

The Minutemen have faced three ranked teams this season (UMass Lowell, Providence and Minnesota State), going 3-2-1 in those competitions.
