Keysight enables engineers to verify, debug CAN XL and other automotive protocols

SANTA ROSA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), a leading technology company that provides advanced design and validation solutions to help accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, has launched the first oscilloscope-based automotive protocol triggering/decoding. (D9010AUTP) covering CAN XL (Controller Area Network eXtra Long) which allows engineers to verify and debug low-speed automotive serial bus protocols and simplify system development and troubleshooting, including CAN/CAN FD (Flexible Data Rate) and CAN XL.

CAN XL is the third-generation CAN standard in development by the CAN in Automation (CiA) group that enhances the well-established CAN FD protocol with increased payload data and faster bit rate. CAN XL data phase speed is specified to be 10 Mbps or more, depending on transceiver capabilities and physical layer components. CAN XL has two modes of operation – fast mode and SIC mode (or slow mode).

Keysight’s automotive decoder software correctly triggers and decodes the SIC mode signal in the Arbitration phase, as well as the Fast mode signal in the Data phase. It also supports CAN XL protocols implemented with CAN HS/FD/SIC transceivers.

Keysight’s D9010AUTP software is compatible with Keysight Infiniium Oscilloscopes using software version 11.30 or higher for MXR/EXR/UXR models and software version 6.72 or higher for other Infiniium scope models allowing users to:

  • Configure the oscilloscope to display CAN, LIN, CAN FD, CAN XL, FlexRay and SENT protocol decoding in less than 30 seconds

  • Access a rich set of built-in protocol-level triggers

  • Save time and eliminate errors by viewing packets at the protocol level

  • Use time-correlated views to quickly troubleshoot serial protocol issues until they’re in sync or the root cause of signal integrity
