ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

McDougall Energy is looking for a highly analytical IT professional who is able and enjoys learning new technologies quickly, to join us as Network engineer. Reporting to the Director, Information Technology, the Network Engineer will be responsible for the effective design and management of the network of the company’s various computer systems and the implementation of improvements to the computer networks to improve the design , secure and avoid service interruptions or performance degradations. Network Engineer responsibilities include:

  • Enterprise-wide network design, including network segmentation and optimization (server and user networks)
  • Enterprise-wide network administration and documentation, including integration of security events and logging
  • Securing the network with access controls, appropriate device firmware/software patches
  • Analyze, acquire, configure, deploy and maintain physical network devices and equipment (firewalls, switches, access points)
  • Monitor the health of internal and external networks and respond to threats in collaboration with the IT Security Analyst
  • Participate in security penetration testing
  • Management of network and telecom partner suppliers on various project activities
  • Enterprise telecommunications administration of VOIP systems, call attendants and other IVRs
  • Develop and support PCI compliance initiatives and other third party audit requirements/assessments
  • Engage various third-party security advisors to understand current threats and prepare preventive actions

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • College diploma or university degree in an IT-related field; Computing and information science, or information security.
  • Solid experience in configuring and deploying next-generation enterprise firewalls.
  • Strong understanding of IPAM, network design, static and dynamic routing, ACL, VPN, VLANs, NAT, and network traffic analysis.
  • Excellent understanding of SDWAN, IPSec aggregation and routing.
  • Experience administering next-generation firewalls.
  • Expert level router/switch configuration in various technologies.
  • Configuration and integration of network events and alerts in SIEM tools.
  • Configuration of network monitoring tools to help the team with daily operations and proactive alerts.
  • Experience working with major telecom vendors from procurement through installation of new fiber, mobility and other construction.
  • Expertise in capacity planning on corporate networks.
  • Experience in remediating third party audit items.
  • Knowledge of PCI requirements and auditing an asset.
  • Possessing or working toward industry-recognized network certifications is considered an asset.
  • Excellent understanding of SDLC and IT change control processes.
  • Valid Class “G” driver’s license.
  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours to resolve critical operational and support issues or to complete project tasks.
  • Ability to travel onsite for major upgrades and work with field services to install network equipment.
