Today at 4 p.m., your University of Kentucky Wildcats host the North Florida Ospreys at Rupp Arena. If you’re not going to game, it’s time to get your TV setup in order, because that’s what we call “computer gaming”. Today’s game will only air on SEC Network+ and ESPN+, digital platforms accessible only through the ESPN app. This means you won’t be able to watch the game on traditional television; you will only be able to view it on smartphones, tablets, TV-connected devices (Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, SmartTV, etc.) or via espn.com/watch.
Each SEC school is assigned multiple SECN+ and ESPN+ games each season by the conference and its television partners. Kentucky Football’s season opener against Miami (OH) was only on SEC Network+/ESPN+, as was the basketball team’s Blue-White game and exhibition against Kentucky State. Here’s a refresher on how SEC Network+ and ESPN+ work so you can be ready to see the Cats in action this afternoon.
How to access SEC Network+
SEC Network+ is not a TV channel, so you won’t be able to find it on your channel guide. It can be accessed via the ESPN app on smartphones, tablets, connected streaming services or via espn.com/watch. SEC Network+ is available to authenticated SEC Network subscribers from:
- DISH Network,
- Hulu + Live TV,
- tv sling,
- tv spectrum,
- sudden bond,
- Verizon Fios,
- Xfinity TV,
- CNTC members,
…as well as those who access the SEC network through TV-connected devices.
I don’t have access to the SEC network. What do I do?
If you don’t have access to the SEC network through your cable provider, you can access the game through ESPN+. ESPN+ requires a standalone subscription separate from your TV provider credentials. It’s available to stream through the ESPN app on your favorite connected streaming devices and ESPN.com.
You can sign up for ESPN+ for just $9.99 per month (or $99.99 per year) at ESPN.com, ESPNplus.com, or the ESPN app (mobile and connected devices). It’s also available as part of The Disney Bundle which gives subscribers access to Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu for $13.99/month (Hulu with ads) or $19.99/month (Hulu without ads).
You can also listen to UK Sports Network broadcast radio for free on the UK Athletics app, on desktop at UKAthletics.com or on UK Sports Network affiliate radio stations, including WBUL 98.1 FM/630 WLAP AM in Lexington.
To note: Once in the ESPN app, make sure you select the correct stream. There are two, ESPN+ and SEC Network+.
I’m giving up. Please help.
Simply put, here’s how you can watch the game from North Florida:
- If you have SEC Network through your cable provider: On SEC Network+ through the ESPN app on a connected device.
- If you don’t have an SEC network through your cable provider, or no cable at all: ESPN+ subscription ($9.99/month) through the ESPN app on a connected device.
