Ransomware attacks have reportedly decreased this year. But don’t start celebrating right away. “Gang models are changing,” notes my colleague, Alexandra (Alix) Weaver, Semperis Solutions Architect. “I warn everyone: don’t let your guard down.” Part of the changing trend, according to Alix, could be attributed to an increase in the popularity of ransomware as a service (RaaS).
Alix and I recently discussed RaaS and ransomware trends in an episode of Hybrid Identity Protection (HIP) Podcast. Why is RaaS gaining popularity? Many cyberattackers see RaaS as a less risky and expensive way to launch attacks. Additionally, many ransomware groups restructure and evolve to produce RaaS services and attacks.
